  • OVERVIEW AT A GLANCE

    Housed at Oxford Saïd Business School, OxCT exists to help close the knowledge, partnership, and resource gaps to accelerate the green and just transition towards net zero and build resilience while promoting relevant climate-tech solutions where they are needed the most.

    Why this, why now

    Significant funding has been allocated towards early-stage climate innovations, with at least US$60 billion going towards startups building some type of decarbonization technology. However, climate-tech is still a nascent sector globally, with key gaps in the depth and nature of funding available to founders as well as lingering structural hurdles for them to navigate as they scale their businesses.


    While there is a growing pool of capital that is being allocated to finance climate tech solutions – i.e. asset owners and managers are sitting on vast sums – there are immense visibility gaps surrounding deals (both philanthropic and commercial) for capital providers, as well as other key stakeholders in the climate-tech ecosystem. This gap encompasses both investment opportunities and new partnerships that can have a large impact. The larger, more dire implications of these gaps are that, as climate change’s impact accelerates and worsens, much-needed resources risk being mis-allocated, and negative impact could become intractable.


    The academic community is critical to helping to fill this gap. New research, forums for knowledge exchange, and cross-border scholarship collaborations focusing on climate-tech in developing countries are all needed. The OxCT seeks to help overcome information asymmetries, enable new collaborations, and facilitate capacity building for academics, researchers, and other practitioners in the climate-tech space.

    Our lines of enquiry

    • What are the main investment, partnership and resource barriers impeding the adoption and scale of climate-tech? 
    • What portfolio of technology solutions are most-ready to be deployed to help mitigate against and adapt to climate change? 
    • What are the tools and methods that can be used to measure the impact of  climate-tech?  
    • What climate-tech solutions and initiatives are focusing on the most vulnerable countries and populations? 
    • What policy environment is most conducive to creating and scaling climate tech solutions?  
    • What new funds, organizations and partnerships are needed to improve the  creation and transfer of climate-tech solutions globally?
